Resistors

Our most popular resistors are our 3 watt metal oxide type. This is because they are about the same size as the old ½Watt type used in old radios from the mid 30's through to the 50's. Old resistors usually go high in value with age this can happen even in storage, so, although the old ½W resistors can be found in sales and auctions their value may be nowhere near what it should be and these old resistors can change their value again very quickly once put to work in a circuit. So unless authenticity is a high priority I would always recommend faulty that  the old style resistors are replaced with their modern equivalent.

Potentiometers

Potentiometers are used in vintage radio and televisions where a voltage or current need to be adjusted. The most noticeable potentiometers on radios are of course the volume and tone controls. Sometimes these potentiometers have a switch mounted on the rear this is usually used as a mains switch. Log Law (log) types are used mainly for volume controls. Lin Law types (lin) are used for most other applications

There are of course other uses for potentiometer found in electronic equipment, some are pre-set type. We have a large range of new potentiometers listed here.

The first table are new with or without a switch they have a 6mm shaft. (This is the modern replacement for the old ¼ inch spindle)
