AVO

Avo started off by making coil winders, their winders could found in most radio factories and in quite a few repair shops. Not only did they make the well known Douglas winders, they, also made wave winders for winding and re-winding R.F. &  I.F. coils, as well as multi coil winding machines winding 10 or so coils simultaneously.

However they are probably best known for their range of Avo Meters. The original AvoMeter was conceived in 1923. Borne out of the need of a all purpose meter that could measure voltages, currents and resistances, all, with one easy to use meter. This was the driving force behind the original Avometer since then the name Avo has become the worlds leading manufacturer of quality reliable and accurate test equipment. Indeed it is still the worlds leader in this market today.

Avo also made other equipment for radio and TV repair as well as allot of commercial equipment, used by nearly all the main manufacturers of radio equipment in the UK.

Other equipment included Valve/Tube testers. Ranging from their very simple two panel model up to characteristic meters. Again well known for their reliability and accuracy.

Quite a few Signal generators also came from the Avo stable. Nice small accurate  simple to use but accurate equipment most of them were also quite small so easily portable. but despite there size inside they were a work of art. all the workings were well screened in a robust housing. They even offered some battery models ideal for the mobile engineer.

These pieces of equipment made up the backbone of the business although, they also made some very specialised equipment, such as Hot Spot detectors.

Today their equipment can be found all over the world. Allot of this kit was originally, and, still is purchased by governments agencies and of course the military.
