Hacker

Like Roberts Hacker have a reputation for producing quality products, I personally prefer Hacker mainly because
they didn't use those nasty Mullard tuning modules, so they are much easier to repair. Their manuals give the diagram for the whole unit and not just the connections to a black box.

RECORD DECKS

We have got most of the service information for the record decks used in the record players. Hacker players usually came with more than one deck option, because of this none of the manuals include the deck information. However if you need this information please email us. If we have got the information on your particular deck we will supply it at a much reduced cost if you have downloaded a record player manual in the last 14 days

The Hacker Centurion 500
Was available in two versions, The GAN500 comprised of a 10 Watt per channel, transistor amp. with a Garrard SP25 III record deck, It was designed to work with any high quality 8 or 15 ohm speakers.
The GAR500 had the addition of a FM/VHF tuner and an optional stereo decoder could also be added if required.
Our manual also covers the Hacker GA500, GA500A & GA500A MkII

Hacker Cavalier GP15
Transportable record player, Mono valve/tube amplifier using a single ECL86 with a EZ80 rectifier. The power output was 7 Watts into an internal 10"x6" loudspeaker. The GP15 could be converted to stereo operation by replacing the mono pickup cartridge with a stereo one. and using in conjunction with a matching amplifier (GP15/ST) of similar construction.

Hacker Rambler GP 19
A Battery operated, truly portable record player,. With a 1.2 watt, 6 transistor amplifier. the amplifier is supplied with 18V and the deck motor is supplied from a separate 9V supply. The Rambler could be powered from 3 x PP9 batteries or 18 U2 cells when fitted with alternative battery containers and retaining panel.

Hacker RG16 & GP40 Serenade
The RG16 is a mains operated Radio-gramophone. The tuner is FM only basically this unit is a combination of the Mayflower radio and the Cavalier record player.  the tuner line up is as follows, ECC85, RF and mixer osc., EF89, IF amp., EF80 (2) IF Amp and limiter, EB91 Detector and a EM84 Tuning indicator.

The amplifier consists of ECC83 as audio amp & cathode follower / tone control. 2 x ECL86s supply 10 Watts, to a wide range speaker unit made up from one 10" x 6" and 2 x 5" high note speakers. Again stereo record reproduction was obtained by adding another amplifier (AL16) and changing the pick up. The rectifier valve was a EZ81 although a EZ80 was used in the AL16

The GP40 was almost identical to the RG16 except it didn't have a radio tuner.

Hacker Gondolier GP42
Is a mains operated record player, the power amp consists of 2x ECL86s in push-pull providing 7 watts into a 10"x6" speaker. the rectifier valve is a EZ80. Stereo adaption was by means of adding a AL42 amplifier and fitting a stereo pick up.
The record deck was a Garrard 3000 unit, this offered 4 speeds and could automatically play 7", 10" or 12" records. The Garrard SP25 was a single play unit with automatic lowering on the arm.  The 3000 unit was not adaptable for use with a 60Hz supply

Hacker Grenadier GP45
The GP45 record player has a 9 transistor amplifier supplying 7 Watts into a 10" x 6" loudspeaker. Batteries

Some Hacker radios use UU2 cells, these are normal D cells, these are still commonly used today and are widely available. However PP9s are becoming harder and harder to find in the shops, and, I cant remember the last time I saw a PP7 gracing the supermarket shelf.

For this reason we keep a stock of PP7s & PP9s.
